Sonnet to Satan

Sonnet to Satan

I’ve toyed with a dangerous thing
And stumbled into a second firey pit.
Lost souls cry out; their cries take wing
As I pass them by. They throw a fit.
I wander aimlessly; cold, tense, blind
But not to the horrors around me.
I search, a gate and way I must find
In order to free myself from this devilry.
Avast! I find the dark ruler of the land
Clawing blood red streaks ‘cross bleached white.
I step forward, an inch, to voice my demands
Of release. The demon laughs in sickened delight.
It replies: “Your soul to hell, be cast”
Whence I ask of it: “Satan, let me pass!”
